Three ships have disappeared into Jupiter's Red Spot. Commander Stone, chief of the Planetary Exploration Forces, wants to know why. He sends Captain Brand Bowen to investigate. Bowen and his crewmate Dex Harlow are captured by the alien Pipe Men. In captivity, Bowen meets the girl Greca, an alien but a prisoner as well. Can she help him escape?

This classic science fiction short story by Paul Ernst was first published in Astounding Stories in October 1931.

Paul Ernst (1899-1985) was an American pulp fiction writer. He is best known as the author of the original 24 "Avenger" novels, published by Street and Smith Publications under the house name Kenneth Robeson between 1939 and 1942.
