Mr. Spaceship Philip K. Dick
A human brain-controlled spacecraft would mean mechanical perfection. This was accomplished, and something unforeseen: a strange entity called— Earth has been at war with the Yucconae on Proxima Centauri for several generations. Neither side has been able to penetrate the other's defense lines. But Phil Kramer believes that a brain-controlled spacecraft can break the Yucconae defenses and end the war. But whose brain can he use? Phil's wife Delores suggests the perfect candidate.... Philip K. Dick (1928-1982) is considered one of the giants of science fiction. His novel The Man in the High Castle bridged the genres of alternate history and science fiction, earning Dick a Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1963. Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said, a novel about a celebrity who awakens in a parallel universe where he is unknown, won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for best novel in 1975. Film adaptations of Dick's work include Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly, Paycheck, and Next (not to be confused with the Michael Crichton novel Next). "Mr. Spaceship" first appeared in Imagination Stories of Science and Fantasy in January 1953.
