The War of the Worlds

The War of the Worlds (1898), by H.G. Wells, is an early science fiction novel which describes an invasion of England by aliens from Mars. The novel is one of the earliest and best-known depictions of an alien invasion of Earth. Several films have been based on the story, most recently Steven Spielberg's War of the Worlds in 2005. Actor Orson Welles adapted The War of the Worlds into a famous radio show that was performed as a Halloween special on October 30, 1938.

Herbert George Wells lived from September 21, 1866 until August 13, 1946. The English writer is known as one the pioneers of science fiction. In addition to The War of the Worlds, he produced such science fiction classics as The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, The First Men in the Moon, and The Island of Doctor Moreau.
